International studies from home?

Female student from RWTH International Academy

For international students, the Corona pandemic has had a very different impact. For many, the actual face-to-face study in another country has turned into a digital study on their own couch in their home town. We wanted to know from our master's students where they are currently and when they are planning to return to Germany, should they be abroad or in their home countries.

It turned out that 80% of the students in higher semesters actually are staying in Aachen and 17% are spending the current winter semester in another EU country. It's a different story for the new students enrolled for the winter semester 2020/21: 97% of the students initially started their studies in digital form from their home countries.

Even though we lack personal contact with the students we have found new ways in our support that allow us to remain in close contact with all students, even digitally, in order to get everyone through this phase well. At the same time, we focus on keeping our students informed regarding Corona restrictions and facilitating the best possible support for a pleasant entry.
