A new milestone in our German-Mexican partnership
RWTH International Academy x Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey: Study Abroad Master Pathway Agreement
A key milestone for students in Mexico. We are proud to officially announce the new agreement for close cooperation with the renowned Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM).
Important cooperation for students in Mexico
The cooperation will give Mexican students the opportunity to participate in two different versions of our German Engineering College starting in 2024:
- the compact version, which can be completed entirely online
- or the on-campus version with a stay abroad in the framework of courses and an internship at an institute of RWTH Aachen University.
What exactly does this mean?
In the so-called "Semestre Tec" in the 7th semester, participants have the opportunity to take part in a variant of the Qualification Program and thus get to know RWTH Aachen University and qualify for the Master's Degree Programs of RWTH International Academy.
The special feature of this program is that the achievements at RWTH Aachen University are recognized as part of the curriculum at the student's home university. This means that there is neither a double workload nor increased tuition fees.
The cooperation, known as the "Study Abroad Master Pathway Agreement", enables students from the following fields of study to participate:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
- B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering
- B.S. in Electronics Engineering
- B.S. in Robotics and Digital Systems Engineering
- B.S. in Industrial Engineering with minor in Systems Engineering
- B.S. in Civil Engineering
To facilitate the application process for our international master's programs, RWTH International Academy has established an overseas office in Mexico. This office communicates in Spanish with qualified students and prospective students, making access to educational opportunities in Germany much easier. There are also additional offices in India and China.
The importance of ITESM
The idea became a reality as our esteemed cooperation partners at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) provided the office space on their Monterrey campus.
We have been working together on several projects in the past:
- ITESM lecturers visited RWTH Aachen University to use laboratories and receive training.
- RWTH students were able to spend a semester at one of the ITESM locations in Monterrey
- Since 2023 there is a bilateral exchange program at PhD level, which allows a stay of 6-12 months at the other university. This program is based at the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) of RWTH Aachen University in the field of electromobility.
As a representative of the RWTH International Academy, Melanie Ostfeld is often physically present at the campus in Monterrey and other ITESM locations to strengthen the cooperation and to present study opportunities in Germany to local students.
Our Mexico Office becomes the Latin America Office
Through the ever-growing network and various visits from potential partners in other Spanish-speaking countries, it has become clear that we have interested parties and already have our first students from various Latin American countries.
Because we want them all to feel equally welcome and individually supported in their choice of study, application process and successful admission in their native language, the Mexico Office will now officially be renamed the Latin America Office – with its main location in Monterrey, Mexico.
Taking a look into the future
The cooperation between RWTH International Academy and ITESM still has a lot of potential. Both institutions plan to further develop contacts at the faculty level and identify opportunities for joint visits.
In addition, there are plans to apply for joint international research projects. A lecture by Prof. Dr. Heiner Heimes on the topic of "Battery Production" is now offered annually to Mexican students. This fits in perfectly with the possibility of realizing a PhD exchange in the field of electromobility.
The focus remains on exchange opportunities and high-quality programs for students. Our goal is to provide students from all over the world with the highest level of educational opportunities.
