Registration Information & Process

The registration period for our Short Courses 2022 starts on November 01, 2021. Remember to sign up well in advance – every year we offer an Early Bird discount of 10%. Planning ahead also allows enough time for the admission procedures, travel preparations and getting to know our digital learning tools. We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Student's Profile

You are welcome to apply if you

  • are at least 18 years old
  • pursue your higher education
  • completed your 1st/2nd year of studies
  • study a degree related to our program
  • are proficient in the English language*

*No English certificate is required. Our courses are all in English and therefore a proficient knowledge of English is important. To be able to assess yourself, the following levels are adequate: TOEFL ibt: 72 points, IELTS: 5.5 band score, TOEIC: 785 points, Cambridge: FCE, Grade C, CEFR = B2.

The right visa for your stay in Aachen

International students who need a visa to enter Germany should make sure that they factor in enough time for the application process. Please apply for a visa at the embassy or consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in your home country or responsible body in a neighbouring country.

Our participants come to the city of Aachen from all over the world. Since you have to organize your own travel, you should check in advance how to get here in the best way. After your flight you can easily reach Aachen main station by train from any major airport nearby.

Why you need a correct insurance in Germany

Health and private liability insurances are mandatory for students who want to participate in a Short Course. Since your insurances at home may not provide sufficient protection abroad, you need to find an appropriate travel inscurance. To allow carefree travels in Germany and Europe for the entire program period, please make sure to have an adequate health and liability insurance.

Asynchronous Learning

We provide reading materials, pre-recorded lectures and assignments, which you can access at any time of the day. Therefore, you can organize yourself and decide when exactly you would like to work through the asynchronous parts. As long as you meet the expected deadlines, you enjoy the freedom to structure your learning the way you like.

You can go over some materials more deeply, rewatch a video to understand the explanation of a complex problem, stop to go get some coffee or come back with new energy after a lunch break. Enjoy this autonomous way of expanding your horizon!

RWTH Short Courses Online Course

Synchronous Learning

We broadcast a few live lectures every day, so that you get the chance to ask questions about the asynchronous learning parts, discuss ideas, debate solutions in breakout sessions and solve assignments as a group. These intensive parts will take up a maximum of four hours.

Since our international participants join the classes from different time zones, we choose a time frame that suits everybody. Usually, in America it is rather early, whereas in Asia you have evening sessions. It is important that you get in touch with our lecturers and they really appreciate your active participation. This way, these interactive parts can be really fun and interesting!

What is included?

All of our programs which take place on campus contain an all-inclusive package. This covers housing, catering, public transport tickets and includes personal support from our mentors during your entire stay in Aachen. In addition you benefit from our broad supporting program which is also part of the all-inclusive package.

We‘ve also come up with creative ways to include various social activities in our Online Courses. Our attractive supporting program provides an insight into the history and culture of Germany. Scholarships for Short Courses

We believe that high-quality education should be available to everybody, regardless of their financial situation in life. So our team is glad to announce that we award scholarships for selected on-campus Summer School programs every year. This means that you could have the opportunity to attend one of our courses for much less.

Credits & Certificate

Workload Short Courses

Have a look at the workload of our Short Courses:
(1 hour = 45 minutes)

  • 2-week programs | about 60 hours
  • 3-week programs | about 90 hours
  • 4-week programs | about 120 hours
    1 ECTS credit points can be awarded per 30 hours

Please note: All Short Courses are full time programs! Ultimately it is up to your home institution as to how many credits may be awarded. For details, please speak to your home institution’s Study Abroad Adviser.

Certificate & General Information

At the end of your Short Course, you will receive a Certificate of Participation together with a Certificate Supplement from RWTH Aachen University, stating the workload and the academic contents of your program.

At the end of each course, students will take a final exam or have to complete a project work (depending on the program) to receive a final grade.

Upon successful completion of a program, you will furthermore receive an Executive Certificate from RWTH Aachen University, stating the final grade.
