Keep an eye out for updates!
Following your arrival in Aachen, there will be a number of important matters to take care of:
A very central and important bureaucratic step is enrolment at the university. After enrolment, you are an official student of RWTH Aachen University.
Health insurance coverage is compulsory for your enrollment at RWTH Aachen University. As a service, we offer you an opportunity to sign up for public health insurance (or apply for an exemption) with our partner ‘Techniker Krankenkasse (TK)’. This can be done during your MME-CAME Welcome Meeting on 26 September 2018.
You are required to officially enroll at the University by late September. RWTH Aachen's International Office will enroll you during their opening times at their office at the central RWTH campus. The details are below:
Office address: Super C Building | Templergraben 57 | 5th Floor, room 5.31 | 52062 Aachen
Opening times: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays 9:30am-12:30pm and Wednesdays 1-4pm
We will explain the enrollment procedure to you during our Welcome Meeting on 26 September, so we would strongly recommend you wait to enroll until you have this information.
There are two main steps to becoming an officially enrolled student at the University:
You must present the required documents as listed in the enrollment conditions on your letter of admission and enroll at RWTH Aachen
RWTH Aachen's International Office will give you a payment slip including the information you need to transfer the social contribution fee to RWTH Aachen (around 260 EUR) - this has to be paid to RWTH Aachen University's Registrar's Office afterwards (NOT to RWTH International Academy)
In order to enroll at RWTH Aachen University in the study program you have been admitted to, you need to provide the following documents:
Along with your admission documents, you will also receive a full list of all required documents. This "Enrollment Information" document can also be downloaded in the download section on the right hand side.
You will receive various documents during your enrollment at RWTH Aachen University. You will need to follow certain steps to complete your enrollment and to activate your IT services at the university. More information:
Upon enrollment at RWTH Aachen University, you will receive the following documents to finalize your student status:
Bank Transfer Slip/ Pay Form
During enrollment at the university, you will receive a bank transfer slip and a pay form to arrange your semester fee payment ("social contribution fee"). Using the transfer slip, you can pay the due amount from your bank account by wire transfer. Alternatively, if you do not have a bank account in Germany, you can pay the amount in cash into the university account at one of the branches of Sparkasse Aachen. For this transaction, a small fee will be charged. We recommend to use the bank transfer slip as it includes all relevant information, like your matriculation number (student ID number), your number of enrolled semesters, the amount due, as well as the university's bank account details. As soon as the university has received your payment, the enrollment procedure will be completed and you will have formally joined RWTH Aachen University. Therefore, you are advised to pay your semester fees as soon as possible.
Temporary Student ID Card (Enrollment Certificate)
During enrolment at the RWTH Aachen University, you will receive a temporary enrollment certificate which will serve as a substitute for your student ID card (RWTH Blue Card) for a few weeks. This certificate will be valid until you receive your final enrollment and semester documents from the RWTH Aachen University. Furthermore, by presenting this certificate at the ASEAG Services Centre (the local public transport provider), you can obtain a preliminary public transportation pass. For more information, please contact the Info-Service Center of the RWTH International Office.
Enrollment and Semester Documents
About two to six weeks after RWTH has received your payment of your semester fees, you will receive a semester package containing all relevant documents for the coming semester by postal mail. Therefore, please make sure to keep the Registrar's Office and the International Office informed about any change of address. This applies to the entire time of your studies at RWTH.
Please read all documents sent to you carefully. You should receive the following documents:
Activating Your IT Center Services
The RWTH IT Center offers students a variety of services, such as free internet access (WiFi and wired), your personal email account, user access management (TIM) for IT Center services, and CAMPUS Office, an online information system which gives you access to your study plans, the university's lecture and seminar list, and various other organisational functions. You are able to activate these services online by using your personal access code which you receive as part of your semester package. Please note that the temporary enrollment certificate does not provide you with an access code. In order to activate your communication services, please visit the Services Activation web page provided by the IT Center, where you will be required to enter your matriculation number as well as your access code. Upon successful activation, you will receive your personal access data.
