Summer School | Automotive and Mobility Studies
In this Summer School, you explore the fundamentals of automotive engineering, mobile propulsion and modern automotive technologies.
On the one hand, you debate alternative and electrified vehicle propulsion systems. On the other hand, you examine automated driving and work on a case study. You even get to meet a student formula team. They present their work on self-built race cars with alternative propulsion systems to you.

Program Outline | Summer School 2022
In the Summer School on Automotive and Mobility Studies, you explore modern automotive technologies and concepts of mobility: You learn about the vehicle in the context of history and environment, driving resistances, brake systems and longitudinal dynamics as a whole.
You study different principles of energy conversion and requirements on combustion engines, alternative vehicle propulsion systems and fuels. The technical basics of automated driving are considered in their legal, social and economic context, including a case study.
Your Lecturers | Summer School 2022
The Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) and the Chair of Thermodynamics of Mobile Energy Conversion Systems (tme) conduct the academic content.
Research areas include innovative concepts for components and systems, vehicle prototypes, the development of innovative components, controls and system concepts in traction and automotive technologies.

The Summer School covers the fundamentals used in automation and simulation. In hands-on exercises and virtual computer labs, students solve real world problems using industry standard and open source software. You learn about manufacturing operations and different technologies of production automation and understand how they work in modern manufacturing systems.
Production Technology meets Industry 4.0
The Summer School provides students with an overview of RWTH Aachen’s research concerning Industry 4.0. Headed by the Cluster of Excellence “Internet of Production” of RWTH, currently important research topics are discussed: automation and information technology, materials science, production technology, smart decision support.
