In this Summer School you learn all about fundamentals in automation and simulation. The topic simulation features various exercises in a computer lab. You solve real world problems by applying software and acquire a solid understanding of methods used in mechanical engineering.

During a lab tour, you gain an insight into the institute's research approaches. In the automation part, you discuss modern automated production systems, covering all the major cutting-edge technologies of production automation.

Program Outline | Summer School 2022

The Summer School covers the fundamentals used in automation and simulation. With your classmates, you complete assignments on simulation in a computer lab. You get to solve real world problems by applying software commonly used in industry and thus acquire a better understanding of methods used in mechanical engineering.

Take part in a lab tour on campus in Aachen, where you get to know the institute's research approaches. Regarding automation, you discuss production systems and computer integrated manufacturing. Thus, you receive an overview of cutting-edge technologies of production automation and understand modern automated production systems.

Your Lecturers | Summer School 2022

The Institute of General Mechanics (IAM) and a visiting scholar with whom the institute has been cooperating successfully for many years are responsible for the academic content.

The simulation part covers two weeks of lectures and project work. The automation part lasts one week and provides a comprehensive overview of the subject.

The contents of the program may change. RWTH International Academy reserves the right to make changes to the organization, the staffing or the running of a program that have no major effect on the overall character of the program.

Every year we welcome students from all over the world. You can become part of our international student community if you:

  • are at least 18 years old
  • pursue your higher education
    - 1st/2nd year of studies completed
    - degree related to our program
  • are proficient in the English language

Desirable is basic knowledge in the following areas: Mathematics, Mechanics, Materials Science, Thermodynamics, Computer Science/Programming Techniques, Machine Drawing/Machine Elements or Modelling.

The four weeks I spent in Aachen were great. Not only did I learn a lot regarding automation and simulation but I also gained a better understanding about other cultures from all over the world. It was an amazing experience meeting so many different people and sharing different cultures with each other. I am grateful for this great opportunity and hope I come back to this beautiful place in the future.
