The program M.Sc. Textile Engineering offers two specializations: "Focus on Research" and "Focus on Research". Students need to decide which specialization they would like to pursue.
Study Track: "Focus on Research"
The study track "Focus on Research" puts you on track for a doctorate and a career in technology transfer. The Institute of Textile Technology (ITA) is a cutting-edge research institute at RWTH Aachen University. ITA researchers work on materials, production processes and products for technical applications of textile structures. With its hands-on research projects, this track will give you insights into current research trends. Learn to improvise and adapt to overcome the challenges in an ever-changing industry that which requires flexible thinking. Play a significant role in shaping the future with this track.
Study Track: "Focus on Coursework"
Focus on your coursework with this track and deepen your mechanical engineering knowledge. Classes like “Gear and Transmission Technology” will help you develop the latest machines for textile applications. With an expansive catalog of elective classes, you can choose your own specialization. Build your own career path with a focus on coursework.
In addition, you will complete the following coursework:
- Curricular Language Courses
- Twelve-week Industrial Internship
- Study-integrated Research Project
- Six-month Master's Thesis
Curricular Language Courses
Learning German is essential to help students successfully integrate into a German cultural environment and furthermore pursue internship and job opportunities in Germany. This program requires A1 level for entrance. M.Sc Textile Engineering reflects this by including three German classes in its curriculum. Level A1 is required for enrollment. Thus, by the end of their second semester, students can reach level B1.
For more information on placement test dates and registration deadlines check the homepage of RWTH Language Center.
Twelve-week Industrial Internship
The 12-week industrial internship is an integral part of the Textile program and offers the opportunity for students to gain further (practical) industry experience. To prepare for the industrial internship, please view the following links:
- Internship Office of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
- Internship Accreditation
- Confirmation of Compulsory Internship are issued upon request by RWTH International Academy and the Internship Office of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Study-integrated Research Project
The Research Project aims at preparing students for their Master’s thesis, by working on a research project relevant to the M.Sc. Textile course contents. If you choose Focus on Research, you will have two research projects. These projects help to put theoretical knowledge into practice and develop your profile.
Find out more about previous student projects here.
Six-month Master's Thesis
The Master’s thesis is the final examination to complete the M.Sc. Textile. Students need to have achieved at least 80 CP in order to register their Master’s thesis, which will then need to be completed within four months. The Master’s Thesis can be written internally with the Institute or externally with a company. Students need to formally register their Master’s thesis with the Master’s Thesis Registration Sheet (Erfassungsbogen).
