Program Structure

The M.Sc. MME-CAME is an interdisciplinary industrial engineering program, providing, on the one hand, in-depth knowledge and understanding of finite element methods, numerical methods, simulation, mechanics and software engineering, and on the other hand, solid knowledge of the core management processes and an understanding of the major social and environmental issues that set the scene for international business operations in emerging economies. Current research directly influences the curriculum, ensuring that students are constantly exposed to the most up-to-date information and practices.

The program M.Sc. MME-CAME offers two specializations: "Modeling and Simulation Engineering" and "Digital Engineering". Students need to decide which specialization they would like to pursue.

Study Track: Modeling and Simulation Engineering

In Modeling and Simulation Engineering (MSE), you will specialize in the areas of computer-aided modeling and simulation technology, computer-aided design, computer-aided production in mechanical engineering, design of manufacturing processes, and life engineering prediction of materials, parts and components. You will acquire in-depth knowledge in the application of computer-aided design software to generate complex technical solutions for design tasks in the field of mechanical engineering as well as in process engineering and technology.

You will have gained expertise and technical skills in the fields of product data management and production planning, enabling you to define, evaluate, and implement simulation projects, e.g. in manufacturing.

Study Track: Digital Engineering

Digital Engineering (DE) describes the consistent use of digital methods and technologies throughout the entire production development and manufacturing process in companies. Today, digital technologies are crucial for optimizing production processes and production cycles, and for managing the use of resources and reducing costs. With the Digital Engineering specialization, you will gain in-depth knowledge of the technical application fields of networked production and a holistic understanding of how to control and design an integrated production chain. You will be able to control and shape the future development of companies through strategic technology development.

In addition, you will complete the following coursework:

  • Curricular Language Course
  • Four-month Master's Thesis

Curricular Language Course

Learning German is essential to help students successfully integrate into a German cultural environment and furthermore pursue internship and job opportunities in Germany. One (German) language course is part of this Master’s degree program. Students with no previous German language knowledge start learning German at A1.1 level to fulfill their curricular requirement. Students with previous German language knowledge (at least 60 hours of professional instruction) must sit a German language placement test by the RWTH Language Center to confirm their language level prior to registering for a (German) language course. The placement test determines which course level you attend.

For more information on placement test dates and registration deadlines check the homepage of RWTH Language Center.

Four-month Master's Thesis

The Master’s thesis is the final examination to complete the M.Sc. MME-CAME. Students need to have achieved at least 80 CP in order to register their Master’s thesis, which will then need to be completed within four months. The Master’s Thesis can be written internally with an Institute or externally with a company. Students need to formally register their Master’s thesis with the Master’s Thesis Registration Sheet (Erfassungsbogen).
