Visit to BIM Experience Center in Rotterdam
As part of the BIM Talent Program of RWTH International Academy in cooperation with Viega GmbH & Co. KG and Hilti Deutschland AG, our talents visited Hilti’s BIM Experience Center in Rotterdam.
BIM: More than just 3D modeling
Building Information Modeling (BIM) goes beyond 3D modeling, digitally capturing essential construction details and enabling adaptive design throughout a project's lifecycle. It's most effective when implemented from the start, but can also be integrated into existing structures, including heritage buildings, to improve design and restoration.
From design and planning to installation and demolition, it delivers cost-effective solutions, reduces material waste and minimizes errors.
Theory meets practice: Experiencing BIM in real-life
While BIM sounds promising in theory, seeing it in action is crucial to understanding its impact. At Hilti's BIM Experience Center, our talents witnessed firsthand how BIM improves construction planning and optimizes resources such as components, time, space and money through real-world examples and comparisons.
Hilti BIM Experience Center: An efficient and sustainable construction industry
At the Hilti BIM Experience Center, a notable example showcased the benefits of using BIM to coordinate fastening solutions across mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors. By using BIM, potential clashes are avoided, material usage is optimized, resulting in material cost savings of up to 50%, and inspections are easily passed because all compliance requirements were followed.
Clear communication between all parties from the start is essential to ensure success. In contrast, not using BIM can result in wasted resources, missed inspections, and costly delays.
By embracing this digital approach, the construction industry can be led towards a more efficient, sustainable future!
