Summer School Spotlight: Building and programming robots together

Assemble, program, and collaborate – a hands-on start to robotics!

Last week, the students in our Summer School "Robot Operating Systems Essentials" got the chance to dive into the world of robotics. And what better way to start than by building and programming your own delta robot?

Robots, Kinematics, and your very first code!

After a short introduction to RWTH Aachen University, Institute of Mechanism Theory, Machine Dynamics and Robotics (IGMR), and the fundamentals of robotics, our students jumped straight into hands-on sessions.

From exploring kinematics and assembling their delta robots, to programming motion sequences, they gradually advanced to more complex applications.

Step by step, the teams tackled challenges together as they tested movement trajectories and integrated the Robot Operating System (ROS) to visualize and control their robots in a virtual environment. Collaboration was key along the way!

The program concluded with final presentations in front of the professors, which showcased both the technical achievements and the strength of teamwork.

We’re proud of the engagement, curiosity, and progress demonstrated by all participants throughout the program. A big thank you to all participants and instructors who made this immersive learning experience possible!

And the best part? Each student gets to take home their self-built delta robot – a personal piece of the experience which continues to inspire.
