From theory to industry – a visit to Eaton Industries in Bonn

As part of our Summer School Automation and Simulation, our participants stepped outside the classroom and into the real world of industrial automation during a visit to Eaton Industries GmbH, Eaton's German subsidiary in Bonn.

Our students were welcomed with an exciting agenda full of insights into the various activities at Eaton Industries. After an introduction to the company and its values, we learned more about the "Early Talent Program" (EU/EMEA) at Eaton.

Then, Jana Knitterscheidt shared her personal career journey as part of the "FutureLeaderZone" Program, offering students a glimpse into potential career paths at Eaton.

Exciting insights into the Customer Experience Center

During the guided tour of the Customer Experience Center in Bonn, our students learned how Eaton's automation technologies and smart power management solutions are used in various industries. One unexpected product was the buzzer system famously used on game shows, also manufactured by Eaton. To everyone’s delight, the students had the chance to win a buzzer at a claw machine, which brought plenty of smiles.

Another highlight of the day was the hands-on PLC training, during which the students programmed their own Eaton easyE4 controller and tested their knowledge with a fun quiz. The lucky winner got to take home the device as a prize!

We would like to thank Holger Thienst (Vice President of Engineering & Technology, EMEA, & Head Eaton European Innovation Center), Jens Weigl, Jana Knitterscheidt (Solution Architects), and Paul Dyck for hosting us and creating such an informative atmosphere throughout the day!

Special thanks also go to Prof. Dr. Saleh Chehadé, whose partnership with Eaton has been an essential part of our Summer School since 2018.

The visit gave our students valuable insights into the practice of automation, simulation and digital production technologies to show them how they are shaping a smarter future.
