Experiencing Digital Health up close: The 2025 cohort of the M.Sc. Applied Health Informatics has returned to Aachen
After successfully starting their studies in October, our students of the M.Sc. Program in Applied Health Informatics have now completed their second on‑site study phase in Aachen – another important milestone on their path into the world of digital health.
This time, the focus was entirely on gaining exciting hands‑on experience.
This phase was dedicated to two key modules that form the foundation for working in digital health projects: “Applied Software Engineering” and “Architecture and Management of Information Systems and Data Centers.”
Through a combination of inspiring lectures, interactive group work, and hands‑on exercises, the students explored in depth how digital solutions in healthcare are designed, developed, and sustainably operated.
From theory to practice
A special highlight of the on‑site phase was the visit to the Simulation and Usability Lab at the Institute of Medical Informatics. Here, the students were able to experience firsthand how digital health technologies are tested and further developed under realistic conditions.
Using eye-tracking methods, they analyzed how users interact with automated defibrillators and how attention and perception function in critical medical situations. This hands-on experience highlighted the importance of user-centered design and rigorous evaluation in developing safe and effective medical technologies.
The collaboration within our international cohort proved once again to be especially enriching. Students from different countries and professional backgrounds came together in Aachen to learn, develop ideas, and benefit from one another’s perspectives.
We are already looking forward to welcoming our students back for the next on‑site phase.
Curious about joining the next cohort? The application period for our upcoming cohort starting in October 2026 is already underway.
