The Online Course is all about German engineering, natural sciences, and German culture. As a student, you are provided with an introduction to selected topics. At the same time, the interdisciplinary approach allows students from different fields of study to gain new insights into some of the most interesting fields of study RWTH has to offer. The program features academic and social events that are related to the German way of life and enables you to even learn a little bit of the language in an applicable and fun way!
The lectures and exercises in engineering include the topics Industry 4.0 and sustainable mobility concepts. The lectures and exercises in natural sciences include the fundamentals of biology, chemistry and physics, as well as the advanced topic bioprocess technology. The exercises also feature experiments that you conduct individually at home and compare the results and measurements with your group members in order to grasp the full implications of your experiment's results.
ITV | Combustion Technology for Sustainable Energy Concepts
In this class, a general overview of combustion applications within the energy sector and industry will be given. Nowadays, combustion technologies are omnipresent in daily life and many key technology rely on combustion. However, combustion often generates harmful pollutants and natural resources such as coal and natural gas are limited. Thus, the role of combustion for future sustainable energy concepts will be discussed. Among many solutions for clean and sustainable combustion, biofuels represent a promising alternative to conventional fuels. The students will be introduced to the topic of biofuels and, additionally, latest advances in the development of tailor-made fuels from biomass will be presented.
WZL | Introduction "Internet of Production"
Within this class, a comprehensive introduction to the Cluster of Excellence "Internet of Production" and highlights from the achieved research results will be given. This class will provide a framework for the other modules of the Summer School. The vision of the Internet of Production describes a common research roadmap of RWTH Aachen University concerning Industry 4.0. An overview of actual research topics, as well as potentials and risks for producing industries in the context of the Internet of Production will be given. Core concepts like the Digital Shadow, a new reference infrastructure and approaches for a new level of cross-domain collaboration will be explained. Practical examples will be presented by means of chosen use cases from different fields of production technology.
Especially important is our Summer Mentor program: Various online events with German students who study Japanese as a language or include a semester in Japan in their studies, take part in this program and are there for you to connect, learn about German food, culture and maybe even stay in contact to make a new friend in the long run.
