Nationals of the European Union and "Bildungsinländer" can now apply until July 15, 2018. Apply here for the Winter Semester 2018/19! Find our step-by-step guide for your application at RWTH Aachen University here.Germany is the primary location in researching and developing new technologies in mechanical engineering industries and textile production worldwide. Germany is also one of the biggest producers of technical textiles.
RWTH Aachen's Textile Engineering department (ITA) has frequently been honored for their innovations and leading position in the area of textile engineering, for example, it won the Techtextil Innovation Award 2015. M.Sc. Textile Engineering at RWTH Aachen University offers an interdisciplinary curriculum drawing on diverse science and engineering principles.
In this program you will learn about the latest developments in textile technology in a wide range of subjects covering high-performance fibers, 3D textiles and new processes and machines to manufacture textile products. In 2015, the program was accredited by ASIIN e.V. as well as by the Textile Institute.
Our Engineering graduates...
An RWTH textile engineer is someone who...
...to make a difference. Is this you?
Join us on our Textile Engineering at RWTH Aachen Facebook group.
As a Textile Engineering student you will develop a unique background, allowing you to pursue applied research, summer internships, and design projects ranging from innovative production technologies to the design of novel high performance fibers for the automotive and aviation industries. The program offers small class sizes, ensuring personal attention from faculty.
This course of study focuses on interdisciplinary learning and trains highly qualified young, international professionals. It combines teaching, project and research results and puts these directly into practice. The research-based or practice-based Master's thesis is then developed from laboratory work or direct involvement in research projects.
You will learn how to…
On successfully completing the course, you will receive a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) awarded by RWTH Aachen University. With this degree you will become part of the German textile research community at one of the top universities for engineering in the world and can apply for a leading position in the industry. In addition, students with outstanding academic performance shall be inspired to pursue an ongoing academic career at RWTH Aachen.
When you begin, you will choose one of two modes of study:
Coursework: focuses on practical and applied engineering with a strong focus on industry;
Research: allows you to specialize in a particular field of research and development.

Institute for Textile Technology (ITA) was established in 1934 as part of RWTH Aachen University's Faculty for Mechanical Engineering. At present, ITA employs 80 research staff, 45 administrative staff and over 200 student research assistants.
Academic Director and Study Advisor of M.Sc. Textile Engineering:
Dr. Dieter Veit
Institute for Textile Technology (ITA)
Phone: 0049 (0) 241 80 - 23456
The Academic Director is your contact person for any questions on the academic content of your study program. He will hold an orientation meeting at the beginning of your studies, and will be available throughout your degree program to support you in academic affairs.
ITA's research focuses on the development of new textile machines and processes. They do not research textile design, finishing or clothing technology.
Current areas of research are:
Research is carred out as part of publicly funded projects (e.g. EU) and also in direct R&D projects for industry.
Student Research Assistants
The so-called HiWi positions are very popular for students, as they provide insight into the research and work of institutes and also offer the chance to earn a small income (maximum working hours: 19 per week). ITA is looking forward to working together with M.Sc. Textile students as student research assistants!
