German Language Courses
Learning German is essential to help you integrate into society. Furthermore, having the skills to communicate in German will help you pursue internships or job opportunities in Germany after graduation. We highly encourage all international students to learn at least basic German after arrival in Germany, or even back home before your departure for Aachen.

MME-Water German Language Program
MME-Water students take part in an A1.1 German language course as part of their curriculum. Students independently register for the A1.1 course during the first semester at the RWTH Language Center. You are exempt from this language course if you already hold an A1 Goethe certificate.
During the A1.1 course, you will learn basic grammatical structures for oral and written communication as well as basic vocabulary and idiomatic phrases through frequent practice of simple dialogues and role plays. This course should enable students to handle everyday situations in Germany.
Students enrolled in the MME-Water Master’s degree program do not have to pay a course fee for the A1.1 German language course as it is part of your study program.
Students are eligible for an exemption from the A1.1 course if they can show proof of equivalent German knowledge with an A1 Goethe/TELC Cetificate or higher. Students need to present this certificate to the Language Center’s Service Point, where the certificate will be approved and the result forwarded to the Registrar’s Office. Please note that no certificates can be approved in September or October. You can present your certificate for accreditation at the Info Service Point from November forth.
Registration and Enrollment
