An A1.1 German Language course is included in the MME curriculum. The A1.1 course is a beginner's course for students without any knowledge of German.
During the A1.1 course, you will learn basic grammatical structures for oral and written communication as well as basic vocabulary and idiomatic phrases through frequent practice of simple dialogues and role plays. This course should enable students to handle everyday situations in Germany.
Duration: 60 contact hours
Requirements: You have to sit a final exam. You will receive a grade based on your regular active attendance in class, the results of two in-class tests, and the final exam.
Duration: 3 weeks in September of each year
The only way to waive the A1.1 mandatory language course is by passing a Placement Test organized by the Sprachenzentrum.
If you do not have an A1 certificate and arrive later then for the start of the intensive phase in September, you can start an A1.1 course in October on condition that you pay for the language course fee yourself.
Students who drop out of the course before having finished the A1.1 level cannot be guaranteed a place in another course. They will have to find another way to complete the A1.1 level (e.g. the regular fee-based German courses at the RWTH Language Center or at another language institute).
