RWTH Aachen University in national and international university rankings

In 2023 Aachen achieved excellent ranking results once again. Especially in engineering subjects, RWTH proves that it is one of the strongest universities in this area.


National: University Ranking of "Wirtschaftswoche"

Every year, the Wirtschaftswoche university ranking surveys more than 500 HR managers from companies with ten to thousands of employees to find out where they prefer to recruit their employees. All universities are ranked according to nine scientific fields.

RWTH ranks first among German universities in Industrial Engineering and third in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.


National: German Academic Exchange Service Ranking

The German Academic Exchange Service publishes rankings of German universities every year. The rankings are based on the amount of funding received by the individual universities in the respective year.

With a total funding amount of 9,425 €, RWTH Aachen University ranks 5th among German universities.


International: World University Rankings

The core of this Times Higher Education - World University Ranking is an online survey that determines the reputation of the universities. In addition to universities as a whole, individual scientific fields are also ranked.

In the field of "Technology and Engineering", RWTH ranks 34th worldwide and second among all German universities.


International: QS World University Rankings by Subject

The QS Ranking by Subject is published once a year by the British information service provider Quac-quarelli Symonds Ltd. RWTH is ranked first among the German universities on the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Materials Science.

In Architecture, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, RWTH Aachen University is among the top three German universities.

Profile areas at RWTH drive interdisciplinary research for socially relevant innovations

The profile areas are the main interdisciplinary research fields at RWTH and shape its research landscape. They bring together researchers from different faculties to generate socially relevant innovations based on excellent fundamental and applied research. By coordinating their research efforts and using cutting-edge infrastructures, these profile areas build a large research network with partners from research and industry in Germany and worldwide.
