The Expert Level

Group Of Participants
You are a project manager, quality manager, specialist or manager from the service or manufacturing industry and you have a Six Sigma Green Belt degree as well as relevant work experience.

Motivation
Six Sigma Black Belt introduces quality management approaches as a holistic set of methods and as a philosophy which can be used to achieve measurable results such as the reduction of process costs and the shortening of lead times for companies. This course builds on Green Belt knowledge, deepens the methods along the DMAIC phase model for leading project teams, expands statistical knowledge and offers approaches for establishing Six Sigma in the company.

Methodology
The course consists of two presence modules of four days each and a project phase that takes place between the two modules. In the two attendance phases, knowledge is built on the basis of lectures, group work and case levels and practiced with the statistics software Minitab on the institute's own computers. During the practical project phase, the participants will carry out an independent Six Sigma improvement project in their company.

Examination and Certificate
Regarding this certificate course, two examinations are required to receive the RWTH certificate: First, participants have to independently work on a project in their own company. A presentation of this particular project will follow in Course Module II. Second, a written exam is taken which examines the knowledge acquired and the methods used. If both examinations are passed, participants will receive the official certificate "Six Sigma Black Belt" from the RWTH Aachen University. The certificate covers the scope and content of the course.

Module Overview I

In the first module, the following topics will be taught on a total of four days. For detailed information, see "Module Overview I":

On the first day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Introduction Six Sigma Black Belt and DMAIC cycle
  • Integration of Six Sigma into organizational structures
  • Definition of corporate framework conditions, requirement profiles for future belts

On the second day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Factors for successful Six Sigma projects and definition of "lighthouse projects"
  • Project selection and evaluation, Project tracking and reporting
  • Basics and advanced methods of project management
  • Six Sigma and project teams (Leadership, motivation, coaching, executive management)

On the third day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Consolidation and reflection of known methods (VOC/CTQ, SIPOC, project charter)
  • Stakeholder, Pestle and SWOT analysis
  • Characteristic values of distributions (asymmetry, curvature)

On the fourth day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Consolidation and reflection of known methods (Measurement system analysis for variable data, data collection and quality)
  • Measurement system analysis for attributive data
  • Distribution tests and data transformation

On the first day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Statistical process control, Process capability
  • Consolidation and reflection of known methods (Cause-effect matrix, multi-variant analysis)

On the second day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Consolidation and reflection of known methods (Process structure matrix, decision tree analysis, correlation and regression)
  • Variant analysis, experiments for nonlinear systems

On the third day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ), benefit analysis and Pugh matrix
  • Failure mode and effects analysis for processes (Process FMEA)
  • Piloting and analysis of solution

On the fourth day of the course the following topics will be taught:

  • Consolidation and reflection of known methods (Before-after-comparison, OCAP, production control plan)
  • Standadization (SDCA cycle)
